Journal Membership
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Southern University Journal of Race, Gender & Poverty. The Journal affords its members an invaluable opportunity for training in precise analysis of current legal issues. The Journal seeks dedicated and hardworking students who are eager to take on the commitment that Membership requires.
Becoming a Member
Membership on the Journal is limited to eligible Southern University law students who are selected after an annual writing competition or by grade-on invitation. Details regarding Membership opportunities, including eligibility requirements, can be found here.
The Journal does not limit the number of members that will be accepted through the write-on process. We strongly encourage all qualified students to participate in the Competition. Selection of new members through the write-on process is based solely on writing quality, citation accuracy and the capacity of the Journal to accept new members.
Membership Duties
Upon selection for membership, members are asked to: (1) complete editing assignments each semester; (2) assist in the source collection process for articles that have been slated for publication; and (3) conduct independent legal research and prepare their own scholarly comments or notes over the course of the academic year.
Students will receive more information on the selection process and the Writing Competition by attending the Interest Meeting in April. If you have any questions regarding this process, Journal, or Candidate Membership in general, please contact Editor-in-Chief Robert McKnight at Robert_McKnight@sulc.edu.
