ABOUT
The Journal of International Law, Business, and Policy (JILBP) is a student-run, peer-reviewed scholarly journal published biannually by the Southern University Law Center (SULC). Established in 2022, JILBP explores the critical intersections of international law, global commerce, and public policy. The Journal provides a platform for original, interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses the legal, economic, and institutional challenges of a rapidly globalizing world.
JILBP publishes articles, student notes, case analyses, book reviews, and policy commentaries that contribute meaningfully to contemporary global discourse and legal thought.

The Journal of International Law, Business, and Policy advances interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of international law, global commerce, and public policy. Our mission is to promote critical dialogue, publish high-quality legal analysis, and equip future leaders with the tools to engage pressing global challenges through informed, ethical, and impactful scholarship.
PURPOSE
Founded to bridge the gaps between legal theory, global business, and policymaking, JILBP provides a platform for timely, relevant, and practical legal writing. We empower students to develop as scholars and editors while fostering meaningful engagement with the complex legal dynamics of a globalized world.

Journal Editors
Submission Guidelines
The Journal of International Law, Business, and Policy (JILBP) welcomes submissions of original, unpublished work that contributes to meaningful discourse on international law, global business, and policy. We accept the following types of content:
Scholarly Articles / Research Articles
Length: 8,000–25,000 words
Content: Original, in-depth legal research that presents a clear thesis, methodology, analysis, and conclusion. Submissions must include proper citation and engage substantively with existing scholarship.
Peer-reviewed: Yes
Essays/Commentary
Length: 3,000–8,000 words
Content: Reflective, theoretical, or argumentative essays that explore emerging or underexplored issues in international law, business, or policy. These pieces may challenge existing frameworks without requiring full empirical analysis.
Peer-reviewed: Yes
Case Notes
Length: 1,500–5,000 words
Content: Critical analysis of recent or landmark judicial decisions, with an emphasis on legal reasoning, doctrinal development, and potential implications.
Peer-reviewed: Editorial board review
Book Reviews
Length: 1,000–3,000 words
Content: Analytical reviews of recently published scholarly works in relevant fields. Reviews should assess the book’s contribution to the field and situate it within current academic or policy debates.
Peer-reviewed: Editorial board review
Legislative/Policy Commentary
Length: 2,000–6,000 words
Content: Commentary on new or proposed laws, treaties, regulations, or policy developments. Submissions may take a comparative or forward-looking approach and should emphasize relevance to international or transnational issues.

Submission Process
We accept submissions on a rolling basis. Contributors may submit their work through Scholastica or by email to JILBP@sulc.edu. If submitting via email, please use the subject line: “Submission – [Article Title].”
All submissions must include:
- A cover letter summarizing the submission’s contribution and relevance
- A brief author biography (50–100 words)
- A disclosure of any potential conflicts of interest
Each submission is reviewed by our editorial board to ensure it aligns with the Journal’s scope and standards. Selected pieces may undergo further peer or editorial review. Authors will be notified promptly regarding acceptance or next steps.
