Alumna speaks on twenty-five year legal career in Japan

Known for its unique food, architecture, and culture, Okinawa, Japan is, also, home to Southern University Law Center alumna, Annette Eddie-Callagain. Eddie- Callagain is the first African-American to obtain a license to practice law in Japan.
Her journey in Japan started in the early '90s on assignment as an Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. During her time, she took notice of a plaguing problem: a growing number of child support cases between Asian women and military servicemen.
Realizing that she needed to take on this battle, Eddie-Callagain quit the military in 1995 and moved back to Okinawa from Los Angeles to start a new chapter. For twenty-five years, she has practiced in Japan and continues to fight for the underrepresented.
