Two Law Center students named Fall 2021 George Floyd Memorial Legal Scholarship Fund Recipients

Two Southern University Law Center Students (SULC) have been named Fall 2021 George Floyd Memorial Legal Scholarship Fund Recipients. The Law Center’s Venesia Campbell and Nzhada Harris are among the 15 high-achieving law school students across the U.S. selected for the scholarship.
Founded in August of 2020, the George Floyd Memorial Foundation has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships and educational programs. The George Floyd Memorial Foundation provides scholarships to deserving law school, college and high school students. It focuses on promoting the awareness of racial injustices, police brutality and ensuring the protection of civil rights is afforded to all people. The Foundation seeks to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement, initiate sustainable police reform and reverse racism while fighting for justice.
According to Jacari Harris, the Foundation’s executive director, these scholarships keep Mr. Floyd’s memory alive while providing much-needed support to students.
“Our hope at the George Floyd Memorial Foundation is that these high-achieving students will become attorneys, activists and scholars who will work to ensure people are treated fairly around the world,” said Harris.
George Floyd’s sister Bridgett Floyd, the founder of the George Floyd Memorial Foundation, noted that it is imperative to keep the momentum going to affect true change.
“As the days, months and years go by, one thing is true: my brother George’s death truly changed the world and by offering support to these students, it will allow us to continue to bring hope to those in need,” said Floyd.
Each law school recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship which will help cover the costs of attending law school and college for students.
