Two SULC students receive BR Bar Foundation Scholarships
Southern University Law Center students Tiberlee Barnum and Shearil Matthews have each been awarded a scholarship from the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation. This scholarship is awarded annually based on financial need, academic achievement, community service and exemplary character.
Barnum and Matthews are both seniors at SULC. Barnum currently serves as the Editor-In-Chief of the Journal of Race, Gender, and Poverty, while Matthews is the Editor-in-Chief of the Southern University Law Review.
Barnum, a Natchitoches native, received a bachelor’s degree and a master of business administration from LSU Shreveport. She served as an Access to Justice Developing Leadership Intern for the Louisiana State Bar Association, a Leadership Institute Scholar with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, a Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Fellow and an ethics and compliance intern for the National Credit Union Administration's Office of Ethics Counsel. Barnum is currently serving as an extern for Judge Shonda D. Stone at the Second Circuit Court of Appeal.
Matthews, who is from New Orleans, received her bachelor's degree in marketing and management from the University of New Orleans. She is a member of the SULC Trial Advocacy Board, Women in Law and the Black Law Student Association, serving on the diversity committee.
