Judge Dana Douglas to serve as commencement speaker for the upcoming Southern University Law Center Commencement Ceremony

Honorable Dana M. Douglas, United States Circuit Court Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, will serve as the commencement speaker for Southern University Law Center’s Spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 20, beginning at 10 a.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.
In June 2022, Judge Douglas was nominated by President Joseph Biden Jr. to serve on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was confirmed by the Senate in December 2022.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Douglas practiced in the areas of energy, product liability, and intellectual property litigation in the state and federal courts of Louisiana. She currently sits on the boards of the Thomas More American Inns of Court and Federal Bar Association. Judge Douglas is a past president of both the New Orleans Bar Association and the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Society. In addition, she is also a charter and founding member of the Louisiana Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network.
Judge Douglas’ service to the community has been formally recognized by many. Her accolades include Louisiana State Bar Association President’s Award, two time “Women of the Year” honoree by New Orleans CityBusiness, and a recipient of the 2018 National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division Outstanding Minority Partner in Majority Firm Award.
Judge Douglas is a graduate of Miami University and attended Loyola University College of Law in New Orleans.
