Professor Deleso Alford Appointed to Gov. Bel Edwards' COVID-19 Taskforce

Professor Deleso Alford was recently appointed to serve on Governor John Bel Edwards' Louisiana COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. She will serve on the Public and Regulatory Policy subcommittee which will provide input relative to policies and laws that impacts health disparities.
"I am honored to have been appointed to serve on this subcommittee," said Alford. "I sincerely believe that this collaborative effort will positively impact the state of Louisiana beyond COVID-19 and serve as a model of how to address health equity through the lens of cultural competency and cultural humility."
Alford has experience as a former associate professor of medicine and co-director of the Longitudinal Curricular Themes (LCT) in Culture, Health, and Society at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine. While at UCF, she had the opportunity to integrate legal critical race scholarship into the medical school curriculum. In addition, she delivered several timely keynotes on this topic at the University of New Mexico.
"To think, I taught a course to first-year medical students entitled, Cultural Health Issues: Addressing the Social Determinants of Health. Now, the appointment on this committee will serve as a means for practical application during COVID-19.
