American Bankruptcy Institute Podcast Features Prof. Odinet’s Online Lending Research
Prof. Chris Odinet’s research on the use of online marketplace lending firms by consumers was recently featured in a podcast by the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI).
In the podcast ABI resident scholar and University of Miami law professor Drew Dawson interviewed Odinet on his project which analyzes the rise of online firms that utilize automation and big data for underwriting and thereby quickly processing consumer and small business loans. Prof. Odinet’s article, titled Consumer Bitcredit and Marketplace Lending, looks at how these firms grew out of the void left by banks that exited the consumer and small business lending after the 2008 financial crisis, and the role that they will play in consumer credit going forward. Chris Odinet joined the Law Center faculty in 2013 and currently holds the Horatio C. Thompson endowed professorship in law. He is a frequent speaker on issues related to mortgage finance, real estate, and consumer financial protection. He is a 2016-18 Louisiana Bar Foundation Scholar-in-Residence and recently was appointed as an inaugural real property scholar with the American College of Real Estate Lawyers/American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law.
