Southern University Law Center to Host Film Screening on Thurgood Marshall’s Legacy

The Southern University Law Center (SULC) will host a film screening of Becoming Thurgood Marshall on Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. in Room 130.
The PBS documentary, presented by Maryland Public Television and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson, explores the early life of Justice Thurgood Marshall, his studies at two HBCUs, and his groundbreaking legal career. The film is also the 2025 centerpiece of HBCU Week NOW, a public media partnership highlighting the history and cultural legacy of HBCUs.
The film is being shown to SULC on behalf of HBCU Week NOW as a part of a national effort to bring programming about Marshall and historically black colleges and universities to local communities.
Marshall, the first African American justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, is remembered for his role in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case and his long career in civil rights.
