Issues of mass incarceration to be discussed at SULC National Lawyers Guild symposium, March 19

The Southern University Law Center National Lawyers Guild (NLG) will hold a symposium, titled “The Making of a Prison State: Mass Incarceration in Louisiana,” Saturday, March 19, on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.

This symposium will consist of two presentations and three panel discussions with featured panelists including social justice advocacy groups, attorneys, policy experts, law professors, historians, and convicted felons. The discussions will examine the privatization of prisons, criminalization of mental illness, juvenile justice system, draconian drug policies, and other pressing issues surrounding the mass incarceration epidemic.
