Professor Pedrioli Presents Research on Free Speech and Environmental Advocacy at Global Conference in Paris
Southern University Law Center Professor Pedrioli recently presented his research at the Academic Days on Open Government and Digital Issues Conference, hosted by the IMODEV, the DreDis of IRJS, the Master’s degree Data Law, Digital Administrations and Open Government of the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in Paris, France.
Held November 4-, 2025, the conference welcomed more than 150 participants from 34 countries, fostering global dialogue on open government, law, and digital issues.
"At Academic Days 2025, participants took the opportunity to discuss interdisciplinary interests related to open government and digital issues with fellow scholars from around the world, says Professor Pedrioli. "My research project critiques recent U.K. law that provides excessive punishment for civil disobedience related to important matters of public concern, including the ongoing environmental crisis."
Professor Pedrioli’s presentation, “Critiquing the U.K.’s Public Order Act 2023,” explored recent restrictions on protest speech in the United Kingdom, especially those affecting environmental activism. His research provides a timely critique of how modern legal frameworks can challenge free expression in democratic societies.
Pedrioli’s interest in U.K. free speech developed during the four years he spent teaching Constitutional Law there. His international experience continues to shape his comparative legal scholarship and enrich his teachings to students at the Law Center.
