Spaces
All spaces within the law library are primarily for quiet study. Most library staff and maintenance staff typically work 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and some noise should be expected during this time frame. Higher traffic areas closer to the front of the library should be expected to be less quiet. Carrels in the stacks are the best place for students seeking very quiet study spaces. Food is not allowed in any library space (except for scheduled events in the Alvin Roché Reserve Reading Room).
Alvin Roché Reserve Reading Room
Adjacent to the Circulation/Reserve Desk, this room contains several study tables and can accommodate approximately 15-20 students. The Reference collection, a significant portion of the international law collection, and one copy of the Louisiana Annotated Statutes are shelved in this room. The Roché Reading Room is often reserved for events and may be unavailable during these times.
Civil Rights Room
This room is located very near the front entrance to the library. It contains several study tables and can accommodate approximately 15-20 students. The Civil Rights Collection is shelved in this room. This room contains a projector and screen and can be reserved for small classes.
Computer Lab
At the very back of the Federal Reading Room is the Computer Lab, which has approximately ten desktop computers for student use, plus printers. The Computer Lab also has a projector and screen and can be used for classes or training. For more information about the computer lab, go to the page on Computers, Copiers & Printers.
East Stacks
The circulating collection is shelved on the first two floors of the East Stacks, with law reviews, journals, and other periodicals shelved on the third and fourth floors. The first three floors of the East Stacks have six carrels on each floor for very quiet study.

KF1501 - Z | East Stacks Second Floor |
Periodicals A-M | East Stacks Third Floor |
Periodicals N-Z | East Stacks Fourth Floor** |
**The Fourth Floor is currently locked. If you need material from this floor, please ask a librarian.
Federal Reading Room
This large room comprises the back of the first floor of the library. It has many study tables and carrels, and one must walk through the Federal Reading Room to get to the Computer Lab. This room also contains the compact shelving section, where federal digests, reporters, and statutes are shelved, including all three Supreme Court reporters, the U.S.C.A., U.S.C.S., and official United States Code.
Louisiana Room
The Washington Marshall Louisiana Room contains some Louisiana case reporters and legislative materials. It seats approximately 10 people and is equipped with a podium and audiovisual equipment. This room can be reserved for small classes and may be unavailable during these times.
Multi-Purpose Room
Across from the compact shelving in the Federal Reading Room is the Multi-Purpose Room, designed to be a classroom, meeting room, or a study room with ample technology for multiple purposes.
Study Rooms
Five rooms are available for reservation for group study throughout the library. Study Room 1 and 2 hold four people each. Rooms 136 and 161 seat approximately ten people and are equipped with a podium and audiovisual equipment. Room 162 seats approximately 12 people and is equipped with a podium and audiovisual equipment. Rooms 136, 161, and 162 can be reserved for small classes and may be unavailable for study room reservations during these times. For complete information about reserving study rooms, go to our Room Reservations page.
West Stacks
The doors to the West Stacks are directly across from the Circulation/Reserve Desk. All regional reporters are shelved in the first floor of the West Stacks, along with the Government Documents collection. The second floor contains specialty reporters, old state and English reports, and a storage collection of duplicate volumes. Both floors of the West Stacks have windows and carrels for very quiet study.
