COMPETITION FAQs
How do teams register?
Teams must register through the Southern University Law Center webpage. All registration fees are due at the time of registration.
When is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to apply is January 6, 2023.
How many teams?
There will be up to sixteen (16) law schools participating in the competition. Each law school is permitted to have a maximum of two teams. Each team will consist of 2-3 students and one faculty advisory. All participating students must be currently enrolled in law school. Teams are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Will the competition take place in-person or virtual?
The competition will be virtual.
What are the next steps after registering?
Upon successful registration, participants will receive a set of confidential objectives that serve as guidelines for the negotiation. Participants will get the opportunity to represent either the recording artist or the contracting entity. Participants will also be provided with a simulated data pool and a list of generally accepted strategy techniques. The judges, industry experts, will use a grading rubric to score each team’s performance. At the end of each negotiation, the judges will share the scores with the respective team and provide constructive feedback.

A number of music industry professionals will serve as judges for the competition.

What is the Competitions schedule?
The Competition will consist of three rounds:
(1) Management Deal Round (top 6 teams advance)
(2) Indie Record Deal Round (top 2 teams advance)
(3) Major Record Deal Round (finale)
