Eric W. Claville

Eric W. Claville, SULC c/o 2006, is the Director of the Center for African American Public Policy (CAAmPP) at Norfolk State University. As director he leads the Center's programming, research areas, and partnerships. Under his direction, the Center is focused on how public policy affects African Americans and communities of color. Additionally, through a diverse group of scholars and fellows, the Center looks to provide scholarly and evidence-based research, public forums, and symposiums to address and provide solutions to these issues.
Claville has worked for two and a half decades in politics, public policy, education, and law. As a political and legal analyst, he has appeared on various news outlets to provide insight on current issues. As the co-creator and co-host of the award-winning radio commentary, The Claville Report on WHRO/WHRV 89.5 FM Another View with Barbara Hamm Lee, he informs the public on issues in law, policy, politics, and education. Furthermore, known as the “Dr. Lawyer,” he is lauded for his effective research, knowledge, and advisement.
As a professor, he has taught Constitutional Law and Civil Rights, and courses in politics and public policy. His areas of interest are in laws and public policy during the time period of slavery, reconstruction, segregation, and Jim Crow and increasing the numbers of underrepresented groups into the fields of law and public policy.
Claville is a 2000 graduate of the Southern University Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, and a 2006 cum laude honors graduate of Southern University Law Center where he received his Juris Doctorate. He is also a 2009 graduate of Louisiana State University with a Masters of Library and Information Science, a licensed attorney and certified mediator.
