Overcoming health stigmas on the agenda during total wellness and cancer awareness event, October 29
Health and wellness are constant conversations within our communities. Specifically, during the month of October, conversations surrounding cancer are at the forefront. In effort to educate and raise awareness surrounding regarding overall health, the Southern University Law Center is proud to host “Just Beat It,” a cancer awareness and total wellness event, on Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Law Center’s Atrium.
During the event, community members can take part in wellness screenings and receive information on local resources available addressing caregivers, nutrition, wellness, and more. In addition, local survivors and community health experts will participate in a panel discussion on cancer survivorship and resources for patients and families battling this disease.
According to the American Cancer Society, there are nearly 17 million people living with cancer in the U.S. today, and more than 43 million cancer survivors worldwide. The goal of this event is to provide the community with valuable resources and outlets that can assist with maintaining good health and overcoming disease stigmas.
Participating vendors include representatives from, Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Baton Rouge General, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, and Parkers Pharmacy.
This event is free and open to the public.
