Southern University Law Center hosts SULC Nexus, September 7-8

In the expanding digital market, the sports and entertainment industries are enduring an evolution that is challenging traditional norms. Southern University Law Center recognizes this shift and has created programming to usher in fresh dialogue. The SULC Nexus, formerly known as the “Sports and Entertainment Symposium” will take place September 7-8 at the Valdry Center for Philanthropy at Southern University.
“Over the last few years, Southern University Law Center has built a robust reprotoire of programming that navigate evolving trends within the legal, technology, and entertainment fields,” said Marla Dickerson, vice chancellor for innovation and strategic partnerships and initiatives. “SULC Nexus will ignite dynamic conversations that will unlock new perspectives and inspire innovation."
The goal of SULC Nexus is to provide a space for thought-provoking round table discussions that will expose the inner workings of the sports and entertainment industry while sparking contemporary ideas among like-minded professionals.
"In this generation of immeasurable connectivity and innovation, it is imperative that we, as visionaries and disruptors, collaborate to unmask this industry's ripe potential," said Torrence Burnett, coordinator of sports and entertainment programming at Southern University Law Center.
Professionals will immerse themselves in panel discussions on television and film contracts, music publishing in the digital market, composing a "dream team", and more. Industry experts and thought leaders, such as Afi Patterson, production attorney for Fox Television Stations; Nalinya Davis, vice president head of casting affairs for Paramount Pictures; Donald Woodard, founding partner for Carter Woodard; Uwonda S. Carter, founding partner and transactional attorney for Carter Woodard, and others will be engaging in conversations surrounding their respective fields and how they are welcoming the new shifts.
As society increasingly embraces digital transformations, the sports and entertainment industry is forced to redefine itself. Franchises are partnering with streaming platforms to transform fan engagement in live events and create personalized experiences. The billion dollar esports industry immerses gamers into a virtual world with limitless possibilities. The industry that society has relied on to provide captivating storytelling and thrilling competitions is making strides to journey parallel with emerging trends.
