Four SULC Students Named 2025 Justice John Paul Stevens Fellows

The Southern University Law Center (SULC) Office of Career Services is proud to announce that four of its students have been selected as recipients of the prestigious 2025 Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship.
The awardees are:
- Ciani Brown
- Iyanla Fuller
- Jaxon Turner
- Ebony D. Williams
These outstanding students were selected based on their demonstrated commitment to public interest law and their dedication to serving underrepresented communities through their summer internships. Each recipient will receive a $6,000 fellowship award to support their work in the public sector.
This year, the John Paul Stevens Foundation awarded fellowships to over 150 law students nationwide, making it one of the largest cohorts in the Foundation’s history. The program supports law students who have secured unpaid, public interest internships and encourages the pursuit of justice and public service in the spirit of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
“We are incredibly proud of Ciani, Iyanla, Jaxon, and Ebony for receiving this prestigious honor,” said Dr. Melanie Powell Rey, Interim Director of Career Services at SULC. “Their selection reflects not only their commitment to public service but also the strength of their legal education and values as future attorneys of justice and equity.”
The Stevens Fellowship program also offers recipients the opportunity to engage in national networking, participate in virtual training and community-building events, and contribute to a growing network of legal professionals advancing public interest work.
