Attorneys Tony Clayton and Preston Castille Headline Fall Fest Voir Dire Symposium
Wednesday, two familiar names at Southern University Law Center gave an informative presentation on “How to Voir Dire a Jury” as a part of a series of symposiums offered during Fall Fest Week. Antonio “Tony” Clayton (‘91) and Preston Castille, Jr. addressed students on the importance of the jury selection process and how it plays a pivotal role on the outcome of any trial. Clayton currently serves as managing partner in the law firm of Clayton, Frugé, and Ward, in Port Allen, Louisiana. As one of the Law Center’s most successful local attorneys, Clayton, has won dozens of multi-million-dollar settlements as well as prosecuted some of Louisiana’s most notorious serial killers.
“These symposiums allow students to intertwine their schooling with that of practitioners,” said Clayton. “By allowing students to get the real deal of practitioners it allows for them to build a better foundation so when they do go out and practice law they will be ready to roll with it.” Clayton attributes a lot of his foundation to Southern University Law Center. “The Law Center was my aircraft carrier, so that I could launch my legal career.”
Preston Castille, Jr. is a partner and a member of the Executive Committee at Taylor Porter. A skilled attorney and adjunct professor of law, Castille began his career as a law professor in 2001 teaching Pretrial Litigation Practice at the LSU Paul M. Hebert School of Law. In 2003, he began teaching at Southern University Law Center preparing students to become practice-ready. Stressing the importance of student symposiums, Castille commends the Law Center’s consistent efforts to lay a foundation for students to be practice-ready. “It’s good to get practitioners who practice law to share and complement what you are learning from the academic side.”
