Brittany Tassin to receive 2016 BRAWA Scholarship

Brittany Tassin, a second-year student at Southern University Law Center, has been named winner of the 2016 Baton Rouge Association of Women Attorneys (BRAWA) Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded to a female student with demonstrated financial need who has completed her first year of law studies and who has shown “commitment, involvement, or leadership in community or civic activities that benefit or affect women.”
Tassin will receive a check for $400 at a luncheon on April 14 at the law offices of Shows, Cali & Walsh in Baton Rouge.
Involved in numerous activities that benefit women and children, Tassin helps sexual abuse victims take steps toward success in recovery as she volunteers for the Sexual Trauma and Awareness Response organization (STAR). Determined to become a sex crimes prosecutor, she began as a phone advocate for two years, but now is a volunteer legal intern in STAR’s legal services department.
Tassin serves on the Baton Rouge Bar Association’s Teen Court, as a jury monitor, and she assists with training sessions for other Teen Court volunteers. As a student volunteer with the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation Junior Partners Academy (JPA), she mentors elementary school students to promote interest in the field of law. Her community volunteer work includes serving on the Mothers Against Drunk Driving-Victim Impact Panel, Neighborhood Accountability Board for the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division, and Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Citizen Academy.
