SULC Law & Society Faculty Forum hosts lecture by LSU Prof. Melissa Lonegrass, Nov. 11
Prof. Melissa Lonegrass (LSU) gave a presentation titled Hidden Law-Legislative Commentary in a Mixed Jurisdiction today, Nov. 11, 2015, at noon as part of SULC’s Law & Society Faculty Forum speaker series.
In her presentation Prof. Lonegrass discussed the history and the role of commentary in Louisiana law, exploring both the process by which it is created and the way in which Louisiana courts lawyers use the comments in practice.
Prof. Lonegrass teaches Obligations, Sales and Lease, Successions, and Western Legal Traditions at LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where she is the Harriet S. Daggett – Frances Leggio Landry Professor of Law and the Bernard Keith Vetter Professor in Louisiana Civil Law Studies. Her articles have appeared in the Tulane Law Review, the Arkansas Little Rock Law Review, the Loyola Chicago Law Review, and the Louisiana Law Review. She is active with the Louisiana State Law Institute as a member of its governing council and its various substantive committees. She is currently the reporter for the institute’ Landlord-Tenant Committee, which is charged with making recommended revisions to the law of residential leases.
The next Law & Society Faculty Forum speaker will be Prof. Shu-Yi Oei of Tulane University, who will discuss the role that tax is playing in the sharing economy of Uber, AirBnB, and similar peer-to-peer markets.
