Wilson selected to participate in nursing regulatory fellowship
William Wilson, ’15, was recently selected to participate in the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s (NCSBN) Institute of Regulatory Excellence (IRE) Fellowship program.
Wilson is one of 10 participants selected nationwide. The fellowship will begin in January.
The IRE program is a four-year comprehensive professional development program designed for nursing board members and staff who desire to enhance their knowledge and leadership in nursing regulation. It prepares fellows to be leaders in the industry.
“I’m excited,” said Wilson, a compliance investigator for the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. “It is something I’ve always wanted to do, but I didn’t have time. And not a lot of people have the credentials.”
Wilson has been working at the state board of nursing since 2007. When he started law studies in 2011, he continued to work full-time and enrolled in the SULC part-time program. He chose SULC because it would allow him to continue to work.
In his position, he investigates registered nurses for violations of practices, background checks, drugs, and other criminal matters. “I’ve developed a passion for regulatory work,” said the Franklinton, Louisiana, native. “I started out as a licensing analyst and worked my way up. I really enjoy what I do here.”
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in applied sociology from Southeastern Louisiana University.
He is looking forward to learning even more about the policies and regulations in the nursing industry through the fellowship.
“I just want to continue in my role at the state board in helping to protect the public and help develop standardized rules and regulations across the nation. There is a need for more consistency.”
