Carlton Jones
Baton Rouge native and proud Southern University alumnus Carlton B. Jones is no stranger to serving his community. The civil engineering graduate has spent the greater portion of his post-college life honing his various skills volunteering on behalf of his beloved Alma Mater.
Jones’ stellar career has landed him at noteworthy institutions such as the Bureau of Reclamation in Sacramento, CA, and the Texas Department of Transportation in Dallas. But it is his interest in the advancement of his hometown that led him back to Baton Rouge as an Investment Recovery Manager, where he oversees more than $3 million in surplus assets and disposition for ExxonMobil annually.
Jones recently has been appointed one of 3 Louisiana Redistricting Fellows. Each fellow is a graduate of SCSJ’s/Power Coalition Redistricting Academies. They are assigned to certain regions of the state to educate their communities on the principles of political redistricting and advocate for more inclusive and transparent map-making on the local, state and federal levels.
In 2016, Jones was elected 3rd Vice President of the Southern University Alumni Federation. During his two-year stint in the position, he was responsible for spearheading the growth of recruitment efforts on behalf of the federation, which garnered him recognition by the Board of Supervisors for his work with National Academic Signing Day, an initiative that evolved from a handful of students to hundreds participating nationwide. He now serves as the current 2nd Vice President for SUAF and is currently a candidate for SUAF National President.
But Jones’ work as a servant leader has never been restricted to Southern University. He spent years as a member of the Court Appointed State Advocates (CASA) Board of Directors, an organization dedicated to advocating for children in the foster care system. Jones utilized fundraising skills to secure funds for CASA and his organizational skills to recruit volunteers. His work directly benefited African American children in the Baton Rouge area who are the majority recipients of the aforementioned services.
As a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Jones attributes a great deal of his community service to his days on “The Yard” in fellowship with the nation’s first Black Greek-lettered organization. Through Alpha, he has volunteered for countless events and projects of service to the Greater Baton Rouge community.
Most recently, Jones became a member of Forum 225’s 2020 Barton Leadership Class. He was also recently graduated from the 2021 (BRAC)Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s LeadershipBR Program Class.
When he is not out accomplishing goodwill in his community, Jones is performing his greatest acts of servitude to his family. He is the husband of Dr. Courtney P. Jones and together they own Jones Creek Family Dentistry, a family-friendly dental office where patients of all ages are welcomed and taken care of with compassion, honesty, and expertise. The family dentistry business also helps keep bright smiles on the Joneses’ two amazing daughters, 8-year-old Colby and 5-year-old Celina.
