Pro Bono Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Students must be committed to Pro Bono work both personally and professionally. Students must also be able to perform Pro Bono work in such a way that it does not interfere with their academic studies in law school. Working with the Pro Bono Project requires students to be good at time management and to make themselves available when needed. Pro Bono affords students an opportunity to participate in public service and service to the institution. Other requirements of members are listed below:
- Students must be committed to the two core principles of Pro Bono:
- Selfless service above all, and
- Understand that everything is designed to make the legal profession a better place
- Each student that is being paid on the Executive Board must operate his/her own Pro Bono team of at least ten students.
- The Pro Bono team leader must encourage and inspire students to participate in Pro Bono work.
- Each team leader must make sure that their team members account for their hours.
- Each team member must identify Pro Bono projects and publicize them to team members.
- Teams can be split between various service projects, and students can count hours from internships/externships once the number of hours needed for the internship/externship has been met.
- Each student must keep a running list of the activities that they have organized, supported, and participated in that qualify for Pro Bono hours.
- All Pro Bono activities should be geared toward the development of some type of legal skill.
